SAMAANTAR is set to release on Sept 4 in Maharashtra and beyond

The film will release in Delhi and Kolkata besides Maharashtra ~ With 28 screens nationwide~

Mumbai, September 2, 2009: Yesteryears’ icons of Indian cinema Amol Palekar and Sharmila Tagore are all set to fascinate film buffs across Delhi, Kolkata, Maharashtra as their upcoming Marathi film ‘Samaantar’ releases across 25 screens on Friday September 4, 2009. BIG Pictures maiden Marathi the film has many highlights – Palekar is acting after his last film Khamosh directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Thirty years after his Ankahee, Palekar has directed and acted in his own film. For the first time, Sharmila Tagore is acting in a Marathi film. The two prolific actors have come together after their Bengali super hit film MOTHER in late 70s.

Today BIG Pictures hosted a special screening for the film at Metro BIG Cinemas which was attended by the likes of like Shyam Benegal, Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah, Vishal Bhardwaj, Seema Biswas and many more. In Delhi the film with English subtitles would release at PVR Anupam & PVR at Select City Mall, in Kolkata would run at the historic Nandan Cinema.

While expressing his joy on the eve of the film’s release, Mr. Palekar said, “It’s time for the audience to respond voluminously to good Marathi cinema that is being brought to them by BIG PICTURES. We often complain that non-masala Marathi cinema does not reach beyond Pune and Mumbai. We are transcending these set geographical boundaries by releasing SAMAANTAR all over Maharashtra. For non-Marathi audience, the film will be released with English subtitles.”

SAMAANTAR recently competed for the Audience Award at the prestigious Beyond Bollywood Film Festival at Stuttgart, Germany; and the film’s trailers are already running in theatres.

Samaanatar, (Parallel folds) presents an intense story through alluring characters of Keshav and Shama. It’s a tale about two parallel lives crossing each other in the twilight of life. Keshav’s melancholy amidst his busy surroundings is well carved by Amol Palekar whereas Shama’s silent poise is depicted through marvelous performance by legendary Sharmila Tagore.

The film has excellent cast in the supporting roles such as Samir Dharmadhikari, Aishwarya Narkar, Radhika Apte, Sandip Mehta, Rishi Deshpande, Makarand Deshpande, Vandana Gupte who all are very accomplished actors. The story, screenplay & dialogue writer Sandhya Gokhale, the lyricist Kishore Kadam aka Saumitra, the music director Anand Modak are other few adornments of the film.
